So we\'re going to try to do two things in this series. Help show you the usefulness of statistics, but also help you become a more informed consumer of statistics. From probabilities, paradoxes, and p-values there\'s a lot to cover in this series, and there will be some math, but we promise only when it\'s most important. I discovered some really clear and well-structured math videos on the Khan Academy website - they are semi-animated and arranged very thoughtfully according to concept.  These would make a great instructional support either as a whole group experience or individually.

This website's initiative is to provide guidance to all invested parties in the implementation of the Common Core State Standards by illustrating the range and types of mathematical work that students experience in grades K-8. The website intends to create sets of tasks that, when taken together, illustrate a particular standard. Eventually, the goal is to have sets of tasks for each standard that: 1) Illuminate the central meaning of the standard and also show connections with other standards, 2) Clarify what is familiar about the standard and what is new with the Common Core, 3) Include both teaching and assessment tasks and 4) Reflect the full range of difficulty expected.

According to TechedUpTeacher, "Newsela is a site that not only takes current events and aligns them with common core, but also allows you to increase or decrease the difficulty of the article. If that wasn’t enough, they have quick quizzes your students can take while they read!"

ScootPad is a great resource.  I like it because educators can set a grade level for the student and add specific assignments for each student.  Parents can also log in and give "homework" to students allowing for parents and teachers to be on the same page.  ScootPad offers a limited free service but even purchasing a subscription is very affordable (around $100 per year for an entire classroom).  Kids get immediate feedback on their answers which can be a good or bad feature.  It's nice that students can see how they have done but if they have any sort of math anxiety, having their wrong answers highlighted in red can be a bit frustrating.  Overall, this program is user-friendly and a great educational value.
